In this art kit review I will be taking a look at the Mossery X Angela Pan kit. *Amazon Affiliate links below
I have been drawing ever since I was little and one thing that I either bought or was gifted are various different art kits. You’ve seen them at Walmart or Hobby Lobby or Michaels. They are jam packed full of stuff: pencils, erasers, sketchbooks, maybe paint brushes too depending on which kind of kit you get, a lot comes with these kits.
This can be seen as a great value, but what often ends up happening is maybe you only use two or three brushes, or only two of the pencils, and then eventually the sketchbook becomes scratch paper because more than likely it has too low of a paper quality to feel worth saving for art. Which is another thing that might make buying kits a negative–quality.
However, what if you could customize your own art kit? Or better yet, what if you could choose an art kit that has exactly what quality art supplies your favorite artist would use? That is what this post is about! Keep reading for an art kit review: Mossery X Angela Pan.

What is the Mossery Art Kit?
Mossery is an online stationery and art supplies shop. They sell planners, sketchbooks, journals, etc. You are also able to personalize your planner, sketchbook or journal. What makes them unique is that they partner with artists to create bespoke art kits.
These art kits are curated by the Artist. They pick the supplies and the type of sketchbook they use. They then write out a guide for you to follow along with in order to help you learn their style. It’s accessible. The art you love is broken down in a simple formula and feels attainable.
It’s very appealing, especially because you can pick your favorite artist. If there is a particular style you want to try, you can. Maybe you want to try posca markers or watercolor or colored pencils, they have a kit for that. It is very fun. Now the kits themselves can feel a little pricey, they are upwards of $100 or more. But now through the Mossery partnerships, you can support your favorite artist while buying the supplies, which makes spending the money a little bit easier. But is it worth what really comes inside?
Angela Pan Art Kit
The specific art kit I bought was the Angela Pan posca markers set. Angela Pan is an artist and animator based in Canada. She mostly draws landscapes and uses this to tell the stories of her everyday life. She has a YouTube channel. You can check out her works here: Angela Pan Art
I already love posca markers, and Angela Pan has a unique twist on using them that is a little bit different than most. What drew me to pick this particular art box was both the use of posca markers and the guide book on how to draw using her unique style. I like that she tells stories with her illustrations, and turns the mundane into something extraordinary. This is a great way to illustrate your everyday life, like journaling with pictures.
What comes in the box?
A lot of cool stuff comes in the art kit! Not only do you get the exact supplies Angela uses, but you also get freebies of her prints. I received two prints, four post cards, and four sticker sheets. These are the fun extras. The actual supplies you get are fifteen Posca markers of varying colors, an eraser, an hb pencil, a Sakura mikron pen, a practice notebook/workbook that goes along with the learning guide, and a blank notebook. I did opt in for the personalized journal.
The Practice Guidebook
This is what sets the kit apart from other kits! The guidebook gives really good information. It has a short section on color theory, it explains Angela’s method for how to blend the Posca markers, and there are places in the workbook to practice the techniques covered.
However, I wouldn’t say that the guide is necessarily completely beginner friendly. If you are coming from zero and hoping for a step-by-step or a paint-by-numbers, that is not what this guidebook is going to do for you. What it will do is ‘guide’ you through the techniques, and give you lots of room to figure it out for yourself. It doesn’t hold your hand. Keep that in mind if the learning guide is what you want this for.
Pictured above is a little project from the practice guidebook. What is on the page there is a simple black outline and the colors Angela Pan used. There are no other instructions other than the colors she used and an outline. It can take a bit of finesse to get the colors and the blends right. Of course yours will look different just as mine did, everyone’s own style will come into play. As you can see from the picture, I believe she got some white and splattered it on top of the waffle for a powdered sugar effect. It is little things like this that as a beginner you might not think to do.
On the other hand, if you love coloring and are great with color theory and mixing paint, then this is great! She tells you what colors and has done all of the line work for you!
Disclaimer this is an art kit review of Mossery X Angela Pan and therefore other learning guides from different kits might vary. Different artists have different styles, and this includes their writing styles so other guides might vary more in depth.
The Wire bound Sketchbook
In addition to the guidebook you also receive a blank wire bound sketchbook. You are able to choose which cover you would like for your sketchbook out of a limited selection, and whether or not you would like to have the sketchbook personalized with your name for example.
The cover is just a removable cover. You put it onto the wire bound sketchbook that comes with the art kit. This is actually great because when you finish one sketchbook you are able to get a new one and still use the same cover.
The sketchbook is filled with a high quality paper that is glossy and smooth. The posca paint markers really glide onto the page smoothly. This is ideal for blending, which is the kind of style that Angela uses.
Is it worth it?
Below I have a breakdown of the costs of all of the items. Now there will be some variance in prices, as Angela does not sell postcards or sticker sheets, but you can see here: Angela Pan Etsy Shop how much her art prints are worth, and with this kit you do receive two of the prints, as well as 4 postcards, which should be taken into account.
- Posca Markers – 46.49 (on Amazon currently on sale-27.99)
- Wire bound Sketchbook – 30.00 (Mossery)
- MT tape – 3.50 (on Jet pens 5.83 on Amazon)
- Eraser – 1.30 (7.83 for a pack of 6 on Amazon)
- Sakura Micron Pen – 2.77 (5.54 for a set of two on Amazon)
- Staedtler HB Pencil -1.82 (on Blick)
- Practice Guidedbook -30.00 (Mossery)
- 4 Sticker Sheets – 6.00 (Mossery)
- 4 Post cards – price unlisted
- 2 Art Prints – 30.00 (Mossery one print is 15.00)
- Mossery Bag – price unlisted
Total: 151.00 real price 189.00
I do not know the price of the Mossery bag for storing the supplies or of the four postcards with Angela Pan’s art on the. Also, you need to take into account that the practice guidebook is her lined work. So it’s base value is 30.00 because that is how much a wire bound sketchbook costs, but it is in reality worth a lot more for the work that she put into preparing it. Also, there is the added convivence of everything being all in one kit without having to shop around.
Art Kit Review: Final Thoughts
The practice guidebook really makes this art kit worth the money. Yes, there might be a learning curve for some, but overall it is a really nice kit. Angela has the colors all laid out and all the line work done for you. You can also look up her process on YouTube which may help with any other questions that you may have about her process.
I have enjoyed this art kit and the practice guide book. I also have the prints displayed in my office, it’s nice inspiration. You can check out the kit here: Mossery X Angela Pan. If you enjoyed this post you might want to check out: How to illustrate using Posca markers.
