1. Sharpie S-Gel 0.7 Jewel Tones
Sharpie is a tried and true brand. You can’t go wrong. They have moved beyond permanent markers and are bringing their expertise to the gel pen market with the Sharpie S-Gel 0.7. This pen is designed for those who crave a smooth writing experience without the smudging. The gel ink flows effortlessly, providing bold, vivid lines that make your writing stand out. The ergonomic grip ensures comfort during long writing sessions, and the sleek design adds a touch of sophistication to your desk.
I particularly love the jewels tones. You can never go wrong with the classic black pen, especially when sketching, but every once in a while you want to break out of that and add some color to your life! I’ve been loving the jewel tones. They add the right amount of color without being overpowering or too bright. You should definitely check them out! Whether you’re a student, professional, or creative, the Sharpie S-Gel 0.7 is a reliable companion that delivers precision, style and color.
2. Pentel Mattehop Liquid Gel Pen
Next on our list is the Pentel Mattehop Liquid Gel Pen. It is a gel pen but with a matte finish. This was a gift from a friend and I’m so happy they got these! It takes a little bit to get working out of the box, but once they start flowing they are great! The colors are bright and bold and the lines are a thick ball point. I have really enjoyed using these to write. The ink runs out fast if you are using them a lot though.
I’ve already gone through 4 out of the pack I received. If you are looking for a nice thick gel pen this is the one for you! The Pentel Mattehop Liquid Gel Pen is a must-have for anyone looking to add a touch of flair to their writing. I will definitely be buying more to replace the ones that I’ve already emptied out. If you want to spice up your writing with some smooth and bold colors, look no further than the Pentel Mattehop Liquid Gel Pens!
3. Paper Mate Inkjoy Gel Pen
Next up on our list of the best gel pens for smooth writing is an ol’reliable, the papermate inkjoy. Papermate’s inkjoy is the etsy choice for all those glitter pens like the one pictured above. This one was a gift but the inkjoy has always been a favorite of mine. Mine is just the basic black pen but they come in all sorts of colors. These pens are very reliable and write smoothly. You can use it for anything and if you want one that is all decked out in glitter then check on etsy. It’s a great gift for anyone and when the ink runs out you can refill it easily and with any color.
4. Uniball One Gel Pen
Next, on the list is the Uniball One. I have this in two sizes, one in standard pen size and one that is what I like to call chubby. It is the perfect little size for my hobonichi cover slot. For me, that is this pen’s home and there it will stay to bring joy every day that it is used. I love the uni brand, it is a Japanese brand that is best know for their “uni posca paint markers.” They are like sharpie in that they make all sorts of writing utensils and both brands have a good footing in the stationary community.
Here you can see that both of the tips/nibs of the pens are the same width and they write the same. They produce a very thin line which is perfect for grid paper like that found in my 5 year hobonichi techo. I have limited space and this thin pen gives me all the room I need to write.
Here you can see the way that the small chubby size works in the cover’s pen holder. You would think that it might cramp your hand to hold this differently sized pen, but it really doesn’t! It offers comfort and control during extended use. The “chubby” Uniball One is the perfect size, small enough without being too small.
5. Uniball Zento Gel Pen
Last, but definitely not least, and one of my absolute favorites, is the Uniball Zento. I love the way the pen feels in the hand. It has a smooth matte finish, it writes beautifully, and it comes in great colors! I mean, the ink is black but the outer shells are nice neutral colors that would fit anyone’s aesthetic. This is the kind of pen that makes you want to write or journal just so you can use it! It truly has made writing more enjoyable! All of the gel pens chosen for this top 5 have made me want to write and draw more, but none more so than the Uniball Zento.
The Uniball Zento and Uniball One are made by the same company but vary more than just in style. The Zento is a ball point pen and not a fine tip like the Uni One. They both serve their purposes. Like I said before, the Uni One is excellent when you really need that thin line. Meanwhile, the Zento is an all around great pen and sometimes I just want that thicker line depending on what or where I’m writing. This pen is a perfect blend of reliability and elegance, suitable for all your writing needs.
Conclusion
I wanted to conclude this review with some comparison photos so that you can see exactly how each pen writes and how they look compared to each other so that you can pick the best one for you! Each of these pens brings something unique to the table, catering to different writing preferences and styles. Whether you prioritize smoothness, quick-drying ink, or bold lines, there’s a perfect pen for you among these top picks. Give them a try, and elevate your writing experience to new heights!
